Simple Ways to Make Simple Changes
5 possible ways to change the 5 possible ways you may be trying to change:
1.) Don't buy bottled water.
Make sure you have a nice thermos to transport your water. Leak-proof, with a cup and one that opens enough at the top so you can easily clean the inside is my preference I am a little simple though. Steel heavy-duty types are very functional from what I have experienced. If you can stand to drink out of those little straws and spouts that come attached to the nicer bottles, I think those would work fine too.
2.) Eat breakfast.
Prepare your cold cereal. This will save you from buying breakfast on the run. Use approximately the size of a 1.3 quart plastic bowl that seals well and pour the cereal into it until it is about half full. Do this the night before and leave it out on the counter. If you have time, open it and pour some milk on it in the morning and eat breakfast. If you are not hungry put the cereal in your lunch or to go bag.
Optional: fill a small plastic container with the milk (one that seals well of course) and put it right on top of the cereal and reseal the bowl with your cereal in it. Or carry a little thermosy thing of milk and it can be used but it is carried separately from the cereal. Make sure to refrigerate or can keep the milk cold if you are not eating it soon after leaving the house.
3.) Pack lunches. Everyone will need a durable lunch bag or box. Also, be prepared to pack up to two (2) ice packs in each lunch bag. Have containers you can use for the things you pack, glass can be okay. Take your own silverware and napkins, an alternate lunch container is actually pretty convenient. With a lunch pail that stays mostly dry, you can throw enough napkins and silverware in it for the week. This is a perfect place to keep a stash of your nuts and raisins, chips, crackers, cereal bars, candy bars and the likes. Use plastic bags sparingly if at all. Waxed paper is pretty functional too. If you are into recycling and being green, you may want to research the impact disposed of waxed paper has on our landfills, I am curious now.
4.) Cook at home.
Have a cookfest on Saturday and/or Sunday. Freezing food can be amazing.
5.) Take your own coffee
(See #1 above) I would want a separate thermos for my coffee and water if I carried both on a regular or alternate basis. But nonetheless a good quality thermos.
