History of Juneo de Shadow and why it is celebrated:  June is the month of Shadow the dog's birth.  Well, June is the month that her birthday has been celebrated  since she came to me in mid-December 1994.  It has come to be Juneo de Shadow and in Juneo de Shadow 2009 she will be 105 years old.  15 to you and me.

She came as a little puppy to my door late on a Sunday night.  Bixby (RIP) and I had retired for the night so it was pretty late.  The neighbor beagle's started to bark and not their normal barks…their alarmed barks.  Like any young single girl living in an older section of the big city would, I got up to see what was going on after Bixby also began his alarmed bark.  I had a covered all glass front entrance door which I passed and checked out back first.  As I was exploring my way back upstairs, I saw a reflection of what I thought was Bixby in the glass interior door.  When I raised the blind completely there she was sitting on the porch.  She was freshly bathed and I really do not remember a lot when she first came in because I immediately went out in the neighborhood to see who may be out calling for her.

It was even later when I got back in so we just settled in for the night.  And I recall possibly taking off work the next day to care for her.  No one ever claimed her and she just became Shadow as I thought Reflection would be a really odd name to keep calling a dog, especially since she apparently was a runner.  And oh boy was she a runner but we just incorporated it into our day and have lived in some very lovely places for our dog jogs.  She now walks with me on and off a leash and listens very well.  She was and a favorite sofa eater…but we have moved beyond that and here we are .  She is such a good good dog that I want to share her story with people who may be considering pets.  IT IS NOT A FULL TIME JOB, IT IS A 168 HOUR A WEEK JOB.  IT COSTS MONEY AND TESTS YOUR EMOTIONS.  I am saddened by those who take dog ownership lightly.  That is a whole other subject and I am not a fanatic who dresses my dog daily, there is just something about the same dog tied to the same house by the same chain in the same yard each time you drive or walk by that sickens me.  I want to celebrate her 105 years as an accomplishment for both of us.  She has put up with me and I have put up with her, we do okay.

Shadow now has many names.  Girlie, Girilla, Milissa, ShaShaw, Chicken… Actually, I cannot really call her Chicken anymore because she runs to the fridge.  Food wise, she still has free feed dry food but I feed her homemade dog food for her "meals" and "snacks".  I will put some of her special food recipes in the Topic section soon.

In June of 2009, Shadow will either be on television or the beginnings of becoming a youtube sensation.  For no other reason than who she is.  I personally do not really want to be on television but for her I will, if necessary.  I prefer off camera.  I sort of like the stage though, so it is okay.  I want to write for a living, it's what I do.  And Shadow is not necessarily looking for work but she is really really cute and we are a team.  If the writing makes me travel, she will come too.  She might want her own show, she is a pretty big ham.  We all think our dogs are the best and yours should be the best to you.  I pay attention to dogs.  If I had to work at a job with animals, I could.  My family and friends call me names like a dog whisperer and I get random texts when a kennel club/dog show is on that I should work for Pedigree as a dog trainer because dogs and I get along.  I have worked with Shadow over the years and she is very good on camera.  One of her veterinarians referred to her as a movie dog.  Dr. Siccema…I thought that an appropriate name for a DVM.

To gain the attention I am writing about her days and loading online videos to show off some of her many tricks.  Keep googling us if you are curious to see how all of this turns out, I know I am.  I am working out the details so I do not know specifics yet.  As soon as I have dates and links…I will post them.
