Rare Matchbox Moments

Rare Matchbox Moments

Since he has been a baby, Parker, my nephew has wanted me to play Matchbox cars with him.  We have played in person and even over the phone each for hours at a time.  This past weekend, I experienced a rare Matchbox moment as we were getting set up and I realized that our times of setting up the cars and creating scenarios were most likely not going to last much longer.  He will be a teen soon and may not want to hang out with Aunt Lori.  When he toted in part of his collection when he came to spend the night, I knew we would have fun.  A little while after he was here, he asked if I wanted to get set up (to play Matchbox), of course I did, getting set up is part of the fun.  I get to pick a few cars (after he chooses his) to park at my house.  However, the majority of the vehicles in the Matchbox scenes are ambulances, fire apparatus and police cruisers. I only have to drive my car around town and do some voices he does the rest.

He is a pro at siren sounds, I told him I could listen to him doing them all day.  As a result we had the biggest call ever!  He called out every emergency vehicle to one call I think just so I could hear the sirens, it is not rare that he is such a thoughtful kid.  It is not rare Matchbox moment though that I realized how grateful I am to have spent time with him and the memory of that call will be in my mind for the rest of my life, and probably his too.

As they (Matchbox) were still at the call, and I had realized this would not be something we do much longer, he looked at me and said "Do you want to go for a cruise?"  Of course I did.  We went out on our journey to drive by fire stations and act as if we were unmarked police in the real car.  I cannot wait until he is the driver.
