10.20.10 National Do Not Hit Any Buttons Day
If by 11:35 a.m. you have not had to use any buttons, to me, you must be having a relaxing day.
For most of us this will never again be the case. Everything has buttons. Remotes, car radios, microwaves, cell phones, and even some of our clothes. If most of us stopped and counted the buttons in our personal lives, not including work, I imagine we have some surprisingly high numbers. The things we need some sort of cryptic code of letter, word and number combinations to access are endless. The buttons we hit to access voice mails, e-mails, ATMs, debit/credit card swipes, security systems, garage door openers, phone calls, and texts alone in one day have to be in the gagillions.
Who ever thought there would be so many codes and passwords? I want to be password protected so on a busy day if I do not compute, I can become locked and not give anyone access until I am reset.
National Do Not Hit Any Buttons Day will never happen. Imagine a day with no phone calls, television or radio, this may be very relaxing though. If you can, try to experience a day without buttons. If this interests you, you may find a whole new world. If the idea of even considering a day without buttons drives you insane, do not even try this. No matter which you choose to observe, I hope this has brought attention to the buttons that get hit every day.
Chapter 2
A year later, and I think we need 10.20.10 to be National Do Not Hit Any Buttons Day. Be real though, we have to hit some buttons. For our jobs if nothing else. So do your work, stroke your keys on your keyboard. Touch the touch pads. But do stop and think before you hit any button. If you are using your phone to text or talk, be safe and be aware we can all be distracted in a heartbeat. When you text and talk, have a meaningful conversation with someone you love that day. It is not a day to take away buttons, just a day to be aware of them.
I hope with you reading this article I have pressed some of your buttons. Technology and convenience are great things, I do like my buttons. But be aware of the buttons. You can follow me on twitter @lorispall to find out what buttons I end up using on 10.20.10 - if it could possibly matter to you, haha.
If you would like to comment on the buttons you plan to or do use on 10.20.10 feel free to leave a comment.
