You Can Do It Duffy Moon!

A Sister Secret Revealed

I do not think my sister and I realized that Duffy Moon would be part of our lives forever when we initially watched an ABC Afterschool Special so many years ago.  The reason we have kept the main character Duffy Moon part of our lives is for when we need to be strong and get through something.  We encourage one another with it.  A verbal cheer, a text, a picture message or an email stating at least one, "You can do it Duffy Moon" has helped each of us out so many times.

One or both of us began using the tag line that the character of the movie used to encourage himself to perform some super power.  We say to ourselves, and to one another, "You can do it Duffy Moon, You can do it Duffy Moon" when we have to do something we do not want to do or maybe even things we are afraid to do.  Well, I think she does, I might just be weird.

The movie titled, The Amazing Cosmic Awareness of Duffy Moon aired in 1976 and has become a cult classic.  The actor who played Mr. Howell in Gilligan's Island, Jim Backus was in the move and so was Jerry Van Dyke, the actor who played in the sitcom Coach.  He is Dick Van Dyke's brother.  Duffy Moon was played by a recognizable actor by the name of Ike Eisenmann.  In the 70's he also played in Escape to Witch Mountain as the main boy character, that guy.

So that is the story behind You can do it Duffy Moon as listed on this site in the Sister Secrets article.  Sister Secrets are random words we have put together, actual situations from our lives and lines from movies or television that we have somehow put together as our own lingo.  Each has it's own story similar to this one.  Sometimes our friends and family even use the lingo, it catches on.  Give "You Can Do It Duffy Moon" a try when you need to be brave or strong, or even if you did not see the movie it can still be a comforting mantra.
