  • How to Find A Lost Dog

Last Saturday, I was looking out my front door and saw a dog run across the drive.  At first glance I thought it was the neighbor dog who is allowed to run free around the neighborhood, but it was not.  I had noticed he had gotten a haircut and that is who I believed it to be.  Apparently he is not going to run away from the neighborhood and he allows himself in and out of his own fence.  I hope he never has any trouble when out.  When I looked out to see where the loose dog was going there he was ready to relieve himself on my lawn.  I went out and asked "what are you doing?" and he began to run away.  Luckily I said something else and thank goodness that brought him back and he came to me.  It was not the dog who runs free and clearly he belonged to someone. • Juneo de Shadow Can Do Pretty Much…

What She Wants - She is 105 years old this Month -
Shadow is my soon to be, or already the age of 105 in dogs years, fifteen calendar years.  That is an estimate guess from the vet when I got her in December of that year.  So 15 years old and it is a hot day out and I am trying to herd her into the yard to do her business. (…)

  • Juneo de Shadow - A Day In The Life

Shadow is my dog.  June of 2009 is the month of Shadow, she is 105 years old this month.  She came as a stray and this is her calculated age as she was a stray.  If it is June, I do not even know which date in June and over the years it has come to be Juneo de Shadow.  She arrived in December of 1994 and the vet gave her estimate age of 6 months.  She still had her baby teeth and I remember when she lost one, she came over to the couch where I was laying to show me.  She later ate that couch and I am still bitter about that.  It was my favorite couch I have ever owned.  I completely forgave her but I can still be bitter, she has had to forgive me so many times when I have stayed out too late, worked late, needed a nap or go away without her (that is a rarity).  Shadow goes where I go whenever it is possible.  She travels well and stays in hotels amazingly well.  So did Bixby (RIP).
Our days are filled with play, she likes to learn new tricks daily.  She can shake (in an unconventional way), show her pretty teeth, look outside, go wait, giddy up, giddy down.  She will do whatever I ask her to do.
She does not get up at the crack of dawn and rarely through the night, if she decides she wants to do either of those though, she will let me know.  She is pretty much a quiet dog but Wow, I said…can she talk. (…)

  • google This: Juneo de Shadow

Juneo de Shadow is going to be the best month.  Shadow and I are going to make sure she is on a tv show.  She does not care about money or fame.  She is just the sweetest, prettiest dog and very good at commands.  She will do whatever I ask her to (within reason), she really will.  Every day she learns something new.  That is not a lie.  To look at her she looks more like a young 15 year old kid than the, in June to be 105 year old dog woman that she is. • Dog Chat: Communicating with Dogs

The neighbors got a new puppy last summer after the passing of their beloved Buddy (RIP) - Willie - Georgie and Bixby (RIP too).  I was just out with Shadow and the new dog, Lucky/Pokey (I am not sure what name he ended up with) was barking at the people leaving church.  He will get used to it just like the rest of the dogs in the neighborhood have, but today…he was barking a bark that let me know that he was concerned.  I like that.  It is good to know his tones, Shadow chimed in once or twice just in case.  She knew everything was okay.  I did not talk back with his barks today because these were clearly barks that he was protecting his family.
I enjoy getting to know the neighbor dogs and hearing them talk.  Dogs have different barks for different things and getting to know the new dog's friendly versus worried bark is fun to me.  Something about listening to and talking with a dog is really peaceful to me.  I can just listen and almost hear what they are saying.  I am a dog person.  Shadow and I talk a lot, she is once again, the 14.75 year old -soon to be 105 year old in June.  Watch for it:  Juneo de Shadow in 2009, it is going to be a great celebration.

  • Dog Illnesses: Pets Do Get Under the Weather

Recently, Shadow my 14.75 year old dog was very sick with a dog illness.  She handled it with such grace, she is a very good dog.  Rarely does she use the papers and pads I leave for her to "just in case".  That week, when she absolutely had to use them, she kept on the papers each and every day even though she was suffering.  I had begun to prepare myself for the worst when it went into the second day,  she had never been sick with a dog flu like this.  I made the call to the vet.
